Artist Barbara Mohr was born in Brooklyn, NY. After marriage, she moved to Scarsdale where she and her family resided for 47 years. Barbara says that she began painting when she was 17 years old. At first, her paintings were like family members; thus, she wouldn’t sell them. As her skills developed, she enrolled in painting classes at the Westchester County Center where she says “the community of painters felt like family.” In the early 1970s, Barbara studied painting with the renowned American contemporary and traditional artist Moses Soyer who also introduced her to sculpture.
Barbara served as a member of the Greenburgh Arts and Culture Advisory Bord for many years and participated in its annual “Matters of the HeArt” exhibit. She says that her involvement with the Arts Advisory Board brought her such joy that she is privileged to give her entire retrospective collection of oils, watercolors and acrylics to the Committee as a fundraiser “to support its work which enriches life in Greenburgh. I want my paintings to find homes where they will be loved.”
[Barbara's entire collection will be auctioned on-line in fall 2026 to support Arts and Culture activities in Greenburgh.]
